    Hello Summer!

    Believe it or not, Summer is here.  We know, we don't understand the weather any better than you do, but trust us, there will be sunny days ahead.

    Rain or shine, we hope you join us at Solid, June 1st at 5:00 pm to kick off Summer and close the door on a successful Technology Unraveled series for the first part of 2011.  Don't worry!  It will be back with a bang in September.  Girls in Tech Boise is taking the Summer off to enjoy the sun (did you hear us weather gods?)

    Gauntlet Picked Up, Now Run!

    Well done, Girls in Tech!  Attendance at TechBoise Open Coffee Club doubled this month.  Way to pick up the gauntlet - now, let's run with it!

    Visit TechBoise and create a profile.  If you already have one, make sure its up to date.  There is even a spot to create a profile for  your company or organization.  Over time, this will become THE resource for the local startup scene but we can't do that without knowing who is out there and what talent, skills, expertise and needs there are.  Help TechBoise take the first step and supply your information.  If you have any feedback or suggestions for them, please provide that too.  A valiant group will be tweaking the site over the next several weeks to make it even more user friendly. Trust us, you'll be glad you did.  

    Your next assignment is to visit gofi.sh, a local company and see what needs there are and if you can fill them - please do.  If you need something, put it out there to your social networks and let your networks and the community help you.  They are also interested in constructive feedback.  If you don't get it, tell them.  They really want to know!

    Your final assignment is to mark your calendar for June 24th (8:00 to 10:00 am) at Cole Marr Coffehouse for the next TechBoise Open Coffee Club.  Ten startups will give a 3 minute pitch of their company and tell you what they need.

    If you are thinking about starting up a business, or have an idea for something that you aren't sure will work, bring it to the Coffee Club.   Someone there can probably help you.

    Its peer to peer, entrepreneur to entrepreneur - the community will raise the startups.  Who's in?

    A Great Twitter Experiment

    If you've been trying to figure out how to dip your toe into the Twittersphere but don't know where to start, check out Ulysses Meets Twitter 2011.

    June 14th (Bloomsday), Twitter users around the world will recast the tale of Ulysses by James Joyce 140 characters at a time.  That's right, 21st century technology is bringing YOU the classic tale set in Dublin.  

    Organizers have a Master Plan for their tweaders (get it Twitter readers?).  Each volunteer takes 8 to 10 pages as through ingenuity and creativity, recasts the events in 140 characters.  All the teasing comes from (at)llysses.  You the Twitter user then sit back, grab a cup of your favorite beverage and twead along as the bursts fly every 15 minutes starting at 8:00 am Dublin time June 16th for 24 hours.  BRILLIANT!  Cliffs Notes and (insert name here) for Dummies better watch out!  Its all about Tweading.  

    The call for volunteers has been extended til May 30th.  

    Anyone can participate - there are no credentials required (academic or professional).  You MUST however, have a passion for Ulysses, have a love of Twitter and provide a brief personal statement and photo for posting to The Brave Cast.  There's a script and schedule to follow - they've thought of everything.  Find out additional information here.

    Time to Pick Up the Gauntlet Girls

    TechBoise Open Coffee Club is Friday, May 27th from 8:00 to 10:00 am at the Cole Marr Coffeehouse in BoDo.  Will you be there?  You may recall that last month, there were only 5 females in attendance.  This of course, resulted in the gauntlet being thrown.

    Coming At You Live, Wednesday, May 4th - Evernote

    We are a little giddy - Girls in Tech Boise's May meeting is in 2 days!  Have you RSVP'D yet?  If not, do so now here.  This is one meeting you don't want to miss.  Why?

    1.  Our good friends from Red Sky PR will be here to learn us in the ways of using Evernote and Diigo.

    2.  Evernote and Diigo are 2 tools that will help you get (and stay organized).  

    3.  Its FINALLY Spring - who wants to be inside looking for thoughts hastily scribbled on a sticky note that a) has a tendency to wander and b) probably doesn't contain enough detail to be effective as a reminder note?

    4.  You want to be a cool kid and fire up Diigo and Evernote accounts.

    5.  You love Girls in Tech Boise.

    Personally, I just discovered that Evernote can be used to save and organize tweets.  While not an avid tweeter, I frequently come across worthy items that I want to recall (for a class, an anecdote, a blog post - the reasons are endless).   Think of the scrolling time I will save!  

    You may also be interested to know that Evernote is a Girls in Tech supporter - in fact, one of their team, Andrew Sinkov - in charge of Marketing, participated in a panel at the Girls in Tech San Francisco chapter earlier this year.
     
    Whatever the reason, we look forward to seeing you this Wednesday, May 4th from 12 noon to 1:00 pm at the BSU Center on Main (1020 W. Main St.).
